Dr. Rajendra Prasad was India’s first President and a great freedom fighter. He was known for his humility, wisdom, and deep sense of discipline and service.
Once, when Dr. Rajendra Prasad entered his room, he noticed pages of a book torn and scattered all over the floor. He immediately understood that it must have been the mischief of some children. Without getting angry, he called all the children and gently said, “Let each of you tell me how many pages you have torn. I will give you that many rupees.”
The children, thinking it was a game, happily admitted the number of pages they had torn and took the money with joy. After some time, Dr. Rajendra Prasad lovingly told them, “Books are our friends. We must never tear their pages. Instead, we should take care of them and learn from them.” This gentle lesson stayed with the children forever.
Dr. Zakir Husain later became the third President of India. He was widely respected for his dedication to education, simplicity, and moral values.
Dr. Zakir Husain, the Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia University, was a man of great discipline and dignity. He firmly believed that students should present themselves neatly, with well-ironed clothes and polished shoes. However, he noticed that many students often came to the university looking untidy.
One day, he decided to teach them a lesson in a unique way. He sat quietly at the entrance of the university, disguised as a shoe polish man. As students passed by, some of them stopped and got their shoes polished—without realizing who he really was. Only after getting the polish done did they recognize that the man sitting before them was none other than their chancellor, Dr. Zakir Husain!
Ashamed and surprised, the incident left a strong impact on the students. From that day on, they began to dress neatly and take pride in their appearance.
