Talakadu is a historic town situated on the banks of the River Cauvery in the Mysuru district of Karnataka. Renowned for its fascinating past, ancient temples, and vast stretches of sand, it once served as the thriving capital of the Ganga dynasty before passing under the rule of the Cholas, Hoysalas, and Vijayanagara kings. Each dynasty contributed to its cultural and architectural splendor.

The town is best known for its five Shiva temples—Vaidyanatheshwara, Arkeshwara, Pathaleshwara, Maruleshwara, and Mallikarjuna—collectively known as the Pancha Lingas. Every twelve years, devotees gather here to celebrate the grand Panchalinga Darshana festival, a major religious event. A popular legend surrounds Talakadu—the curse of Queen Alamelamma, who is believed to have buried the town under sand and brought misfortune to the Mysore royal family. This tale adds a mysterious charm to the place. Today, Talakadu stands as a unique blend of mythology, history, and natural beauty. Its scenic riverside location, sacred temples, and intriguing past continue to attract tourists, historians, and pilgrims from across the country.
