Abandoning vices like theft, violence, lying, anger, harsh words, self-praise, and criticism of others is the fundamental duty for achieving inner and outer purity. The essence of this vachana is that a true devotee with such qualities can easily win over Koodala Sangamadeva.

When your own body and mind are filled with evil desires, distortions, and thoughtlessness, why do you try to correct the flaws of the world instead of fixing yourself? It is stated in the vachana that Koodala Sangamadeva does not appreciate those who weep for the sorrows of a neighbor’s house while ignoring their own.

Those bitten by a snake or possessed by a ghost can still be reached or spoken to. However, it is extremely difficult to talk to those possessed by the “ghost” of arrogance and wealth. Basavanna says that if the “sorcerer” called poverty enters their home, they immediately start talking to everyone and remember Koodala Sangamadeva.
